Household Chef

Job Description - Many people think that hiring a chef for their nutritional needs is only for the wealthy. Wrong! Utilizing a chef’s services is often more economical (and far healthier) than eating out, and sometimes even more economical than making your own meals. More and more families are acquiring the services of Chefs due to the convenience, health, and economic benefits that they offer.

While considering hiring a chef, it is important to understand the difference between a Private Chef and a Personal Chef. Often, both have culinary degrees from culinary institutions. Both also generally plan and prepare food for parties and other social events. The main difference is that a Private Chef prepares gourmet meals in the client’s house (in-site chefs) while a Personal Chef prepares gourmet meals off-site and drops fully prepared meals at the client’s home.

Responsibilities of Private Chefs include preparing meals and stocking the kitchen (including ordering groceries), knowing different types of menus and accommodating special dietary needs. Responsibilities also include organizing and operating the kitchen as well as presenting and serving the food. Occasionally, Private Chefs may be required to assist with or oversee special functions or events.

Schedules - All domestic personnel position types registered at NannyMax.com have their availability indicated under the “When Available” section of their profile. Household Managers may be available part-time, full-time or both, and may also be available during the week, evenings, or on occasion/as needed. Please refer to the Chefs’ Profiles to best determine the availability.

Salary Range – – Typical Private Chefs’ salaries range from $15/hour to $35/hr depending on the candidate's experience, availability, and the responsibilities of the position. Other factors that may affect salaries include the amount of travel involved, the region of the country where employment is required, and the individual/family’s special requirements. A Personal Chef who prepares meals outside of the home and delivers them will have various methods of pricing depending on quantity, frequency of delivery, category of food, number of people to be fed, etc. Families are encouraged to SEARCH our database for FREE to see the salaries requested by the candidates registered on our site.

Benefits – Although not required by law, many families offer benefits to their domestic personnel to encourage longevity of employment and make the overall compensation package more attractive to quality candidates. Some families offer perks such as transportation and lodging. While many candidates do not expect or desire benefits, others do. In all cases, Families should discuss benefits directly with the candidates.
